The Con-Quest: Part 1

So I dream this dream at LEAST once a month. I’m in my room or something and suddenly I’m all “Hey, how did I forget that I have this authentic replica costume of Boba Fett/ General Kael/ Gizmoduck/ whatever in the back of my closet?”. I usually wake up before I have a chance to wear it somewhere cool, or use it to fight crime. The dreams where I have a working lightsaber are always the hardest to wake up from. *saaaadfaaaace*

I always dream I’ll build my own awesome props and costume for some Con sometime, but realistically, it’ll probably never happen. I was totally slack jawed and envious.

In the Beginning

I don’t often embellish stories…. okay, shut up, whatever.  However, I often see things a certain way very clearly in my mind when I try to describe a story to someone. It’s always frustrating for me because the other people can’t see what I see, at least not until I get my mutant telepathy powers.

But I thought it would be funny if Morgan and Andy saw the story in Lance’s mind as he was telling it.

Well, looks like Lance is starting to feel the beers.

Seriously, though, what is it about getting sloshed that makes your concept of personal space vanish? Maybe it’s not everyone, and I’ve just hung out with  predominantly touchy-feely drunks? I have also noticed that girls hit harder when they’re drunk, though I wish to stress that my personal experience of the latter is not due the touchy-drunk-ness.

One of my friends recently went to a con involving kink and geeks and informed me that she lost her shirt playing “Strip Settlers of Catan.”  I am fairly certain that no one is going to top that, ever. I mean, that’s just…. damn.

 

I’d already written this strip when she told me, so thanks for upstaging me. Now strip darts seems so much less awesome. Also, I didn’t really mean to give Andy the body of Zapp Brannigan, it just kinda happened.

But seriously, in my tenure as a single guy who tried too hard, I’ve been relegated to many relationship categories: ‘friends,’ ‘buds,’ the ever-popular ‘brother’… but being called ‘chum’ kinda stung. It was a while before I could even watch the Adam West Batman show again.

If I am reincarnated as a girl I swear I will not use this noun.  Well, unless all the cool kids are using it too. Oh, we’re meeting at the old bridge to hang out later? I’m so there…

In the original version of this comic, there were going to be a lot more empty glasses on the table, but the waitress kept coming by and taking them.

Will Lance and Morgan succeed in cheering him up? Can Andy’s birthday be saved before it’s too late and he makes another super-depressing Facebook status update?!?! Will they find the clue at Skull Rock?!?!?!?

Sudden Road Trip!

I think one of the worst things about getting older (i.e., out of the 20s) is the loss of spontaneity, especially the ability to randomly drop everything and take a day or weekend trip somewhere with some buds. Nowadays everyone has conflicting schedules more often than not, and that’s not even touching the friends you have who now need to find sitters or daycare before going anywhere that isn’t stroller friendly.

A big (belated) shout out to all of you out there who’ve been dumped on V-Day. Eff that Ess, I say.
